HARPREET S. WALIA

Harpreet is an attorney with WLO in Silicon Valley. He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Central, Northern and Southern Districts of California. Harpreet was admtted to practice law in California in 1995.

Practice Areas | Harpreet's practice areas include, business and intellectual property litigation, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, real estate law, franchise law and business transactions. He represents business clients in a wide variety of industries such as software development, consulting services, manufacturing, franchise, and real estate development. Harpreet’s recent cases include Haldiram v. 4M Sweets & Food Corp., an international trademark infringement case, where Mr. Walia was able to obtain a preliminary injunction on behalf of his client leading to a favorable settlement and conclusion of the case. In Cameron International Trading Co. d/b/a Carson Optical and Leading Extreme Optimist Industries, Ltd. v. Hawk Importers, Harpreet was able to obtain a favorable settlement on a claim for trade dress infringement, false designation of origin under the federal Lanham Act, common law trademark infringement and unfair competition. A partial list of some recent transactional engagements include, representing a high-tech client in its merger with a publicly traded company; representing a high-tech client in its acquisition of another company; drafting a joint venture agreement for the development of proprietary software; representing a client in the development of multi-residential property; assisting a client in HUD sponsored financing (in excess of $100 Million Dollars to date).

Education | Harpreet received his B.A. in Political Science in 1991 from University of California, Los Angeles where he graduated with honors. He received his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1994.

Professional Affiliations | Harpreet is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the San Francisco Bar Association. He is also a member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).

DEREK YU

Derek is of-counsel with WLO in Silicon Valley. He is admitted to the California State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. He was admitted to practice law in California in 1999.

Education | Derek graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1995 with an emphasis in Political Science. Thereafter, he earned his law degree in 1999 from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Derek practiced with Tyre Kamins Katz & Granof (Los Angeles) and Schofield & Schiller (Walnut Creek & San Ramon) prior to joining WLO. In addition, Derek has a California Real Estate Broker's License, and speaks Chinese (Cantonese).
